JOEL WHITNEY, MA LPC-S

Joel Whitney focuses on two areas: helping parents and kids build stronger families, and helping men get unstuck and move forward.

Kids & Parenting

Joel has spent over two decades working with kids and families. He connects quickly with children and helps parents make sense of behaviors that feel confusing, frustrating, or out of control.

This isn’t about theory—it’s about helping you:

  • Reduce conflict at home
  • Understand what’s actually driving your child’s behavior
  • Respond with clarity and confidence instead of guesswork

Whether you’re in a two-parent home, single-parent home, or blended family, Joel helps you create a home that feels more stable, connected, and manageable.

Men

Mental health services have become heavily female-dominated, and far too many men are left without support that actually speaks their language. That’s why he intentionally expanded his practice to serve men across the entire state of Michigan through in-person or secure virtual sessions. Whether you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, fatherhood pressures, burnout, or loss of purpose, he provides a straightforward, no-BS space built for guys who want real results—not endless talk.

About Joel:

Joel enjoys superheroes, comic books, and spending time with his wife and four kids. An avid backpacker and self-proclaimed expert on Captain America, he values challenge, growth, and staying engaged in what matters most—both in life and in the work he does with clients.

He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Michigan, received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Grand Valley State University and his Master of Arts in Counseling at Spring Arbor University. Joel has been working with kids since 2001 and has worked in both hospital settings and outpatient practice. Joel also offers supervision for Limited License Counselors.

“My greatest blessing in life is my family. I’m always challenged, always blessed, and forever thankful that God has given them to me. I’m convinced that God does his most significant work on me by working through them.”
